WATER-REUSE SAFETY

As water scarcity pushes more farms toward reusing treated wastewater for irrigation, the safety question becomes just as important as the supply question — is this water actually safe for crops and soil?

Through a funded research partnership with the University of Brasília and CTI/MCTI, we’re extending our core monitoring platform to track not just organic load but nutrients and a proxy for microbial contamination — aimed at supporting safer reuse decisions. This is active research, not yet a commercial product.

Why does reuse safety matter?

Treated wastewater can be a valuable irrigation resource, but it can also carry pathogens or nutrient imbalances if not properly monitored — international frameworks like the EU’s 2020/741 reuse regulation and WHO/USEPA guidelines exist for exactly this reason.

What’s still ahead?

This programme is currently in R&D — upgrading hardware, adding sensors, and validating against an accredited lab over a multi-phase testing plan. Results will be published here honestly labelled by stage, not presented as a finished product before it is one.
