Water utilities operate at enormous energy and chemical cost — SABESP alone consumes more than 2 TWh of energy a year pumping and treating water and wastewater. Faster information means operators can act on today’s conditions instead of a lab result describing what happened five days ago.

Continuous, IoT-connected BOD5 monitoring for wastewater treatment plants, giving operators BOD5 estimates on a 12–48 hour cycle instead of a 5-day lab turnaround — validated against lab reference measurements, not a replacement for them.

Roadmap: extending this approach with satellite data alongside sensor and IoT inputs for broader water-management coverage.

Agricultural Water-Reuse Safety

A funded research programme (with the University of Brasília and CTI/MCTI) extending BOD5 monitoring with additional parameters relevant to safe agricultural reuse of treated wastewater. Currently in R&D, not yet a commercial product.

Aquaculture Water Quality
